SHYNESS 1 ("TEARS")


1. TYPE OF PREVENTION MATERIAL.

- Poster.
- Mixt bitmap and vectors but concept is compatible with very big enlargement like public advertising or reduction for magazine and leaflets without loss of graphic quality.

2. OBJECTIVES OF "SHYNESS 1" POSTER.

The main target is to fight shyness of women by using the maternal feeling of womans. Shyness is a dangerous cause of failure of classic HIV prevention campaign (shyness to buy a pack of condom, but also shyness to have a condom in their back and shyness to oblige their male partner to use condom at the critical moment). By thinking about (their) children, the woman will have possibly more energy to figh their own shyness.

Targeted people and dissemination points

- This poster is mainly dedicated for mothers ...but by the way all the women or girls.
- It can be disseminated in women's magazines or as a cover for a leaflet/booklet.
- Poster is compatible with requirements of tribal, agrarian, undustrial and post industrial culture because using the universal sense of "sad feelings" that inspire orphans.
- It can be displayed in any public room as there are no shocking pictures.
- Not adequate for persons who do not know the basics about HIV danger (rare in Thailand).

Messages

To deliver the following "1st lines message":

- AIDS is a deadly disease... still uncurable

To deliver the following "2nd lines messages" :

- AIDS is a deadly disease and many parents have died from this disease, letting their own children in the hands of relatives such as the grand mother or, in a worst scenario, in orphanages.

- Appeal to women to fight their shyness: shyness not only to buy a pack of condom at the nearest shop or at any clinic, but also shyness to have a condom in their back and shyness to oblige their male partner to use condom at the critical moment. Mainly, this poster tackles the last shyness: "impose use of condoms" when having an intimate dangerous or unsafe relationship.

- However, into the discussion that this poster may induce, it is important that the animator goes beyond the shyness in the 'bedroom" and induce real discussion about shyness of women to buy condom or the potential problems that girls or women may face by having condoms in their lady bag.

- Aside the shyness, there is also an important message that should be delivered: the power of women to impose condoms to their husband or boyfriend. We are speaking here about "empowering women" which in Thailand (as many other countries) is a quite difficult issue. It is well known that a very large majority of Thai girls or women are, from the beginning of any relationship, already considering themselves as "lower" than the men or boyfriends. "Impose condoms" for girls or women would be a extremely hard issue, but when it is a matter of live or death: there may not be difficult issues.

- It can also be used for teenagers (still not being married) to emphasize on their responsibilities when they will get into marriage and when they will have children.
